First game of the season and other random things....

Well I meant to do a post about our first game, which was last Friday night, a lot earlier this week but life got in the way, haha. So we had our first Friday night game of the season last week. Unfortunately, our team lost. But that certainly did not keep our band kids from having a squawking good time. I should have taken more pics..but..uh, I forgot. (At least I'm honest!) Here is a picture I did get of my awesome handsome amazing talented wonderful band director hubby Lee Rigdon standing on the podium in front of his band, about to conduct the Star Spangled Banner:
Isn't he handsome? Well, yes, I am a little bias. I admit it. I am in love. Ok, so here is the other love of my life on the drum major's podium during 3rd quarter:
Well as some of you may or may not know, I used to work as my husband's assistant-as the junior high director/assistant high school band director/colorguard instructor. When I got preggo with the little man you see in the picture above, I decided to stop working and become a stay at home Mom. So we hired a wonderful young lady to be our new colorguard instructor. She did an absolutely AWESOME job these past 2 years. Unfortunately, she was not able to help us this year unexpectedly. We totally understand and definitely will miss her. Therefore, I have stepped in as the colorguard instructor once again. Here is a picture of my lovely girlies at practice one day after school:
And, last but not least, I have a huge problem. I think my son is going to be a drummer. Yep, you heard me right. A drummer. Just look. And the high school kids are encouraging it. Yeah yeah, I'm sure that all 2 year olds like anything that makes noise, haha. But I am just trying to prepare myself if it is true. Maybe its just a 2 year old phase.....
Well, that about wraps up this weeks post! Thank you so very much for taking time out of your busy Facebook time to read my blog about being a band director. We live such an exciting life, I know. :) Until next time...

Off to a good start....

So some of the incidents that happened during our 2 weeks of summer band camp include but are not limited to the following:
  • Our band captain passed out while marching, falling face first onto the parking lot, and his head bounced off the ground. Yes, really. My hubby the band director saw it happen. He busted some teeth, and sliced open his chin. He had to go to dentist that day and also had to get stitches in his chin.
  • Multiple kids vomited and got 'sick' because they drank milk for breakfast that morning, even though they were told not to....go figure.
  • A copperhead snake joined band rehearsal one evening, slithering across the field while the band was standing at attention. Nobody screamed. Now that's discipline!
So, now that all of that fun is finally over, ...bring on the new schoolyear! School officially started yesterday for the school where my husband works as a Band Director. It was a little chaotic, but that happens every year, right? Back into the heat those kids went, practicing once again on that hot parking lot. I will share a few pics with you of their first day back and afterschool practice:
                            Warm-up marching block

My hubby standing in front of the kids during marching warm-up. I told him he looked like a football coach with that hat on...ughh, lol.
                           Marching warm-up block
Taking a break...don't they look so hot and miserable, lol?
Chillin in the back of the truck...

So our 2 year old son joined in on the fun, as he often does. He ran around in his onesie, throwing his ball and drinking 3 bottles of water. I am very fortunate to have parents that are willing to help watch him during marching band rehearsals so that I can work with the colorguard. We have awesome parent support!
Jaren decided to climb into the instrument storage shelf...he fits perfectly!

Stressing Daddy out by looking through the books and DVD's on his shelf in his band office...

So that about wraps it up for the first day of school! I still have not started my part-time band teaching job, which is at a private school in the next town. We start next week. Until next time...

A New School Year

Whew, it is time already for a new school year here in south Mississippi. The lazy days of summer are drawing to an end. Actually, the days of summer have been over for my husband and I for about 3 weeks now. We have the privilege of being Band Directors. Yes, I capitalized that because I believe it is a position to be respected, feared, and sought after by many! Well, maybe not the latter, but we do have a load on us as teachers of band. A lot more responsibilities than classroom teachers (though they have a tough job also and a lot of responsibilities as well), and a lot more responsibilities than people may realize... And that is why I am starting this blog, BandDirectorConfessions. This blogs is to share our wonderful, exciting, amazing, unbelievable and sometimes just wild experiences of being Band Directors that are married. Oh, the things you will learn from this blog, haha. I plan on sharing pictures of Friday night football games, Saturday marching contests, weekly practices, and anything else our crazy band kiddos do. I tried doing this a couple of years ago, but sadly just didn't keep up with it. I shall try harder this time. Anyways, I think that wraps it up for my first post. Until next time...
